Aim of the course:

This one-day course is for professionals across education, health (primary care, mental health, school nursing, sexual health), children’s social care, police, voluntary sector organisations, youth offending, fostering and adoption services, residential care and specialist providers.

The course provides an overview of the signs and indicators of child sexual exploitation, the concept of exchange and the limitations of risk assessments. There is a focus throughout the day on developing knowledge, skills and confidence in talking to children when there are concerns of child sexual abuse in the context of exploitation.

By the end of the webinar delegates will:

  • know how to describe child sexual exploitation as a form of child sexual abuse,
  • know how to describe the grooming process and the integral role it plays in exploiting children and young people,
  • be able to recognise how changes in society have impacted on policy related to how children are safeguarded,
  • understand best prac the use of language in describing children and young people affected by child sexual exploitation and how this impacts our response to them,
  • have knowledge of the experiences that increase the vulnerability of young people to child sexual exploitation,
  • know the signs and indicators specific to child sexual exploitation and apply this knowledge in practice,
  • have explored the contextual safeguarding model and the challenges it has in relation to child sexual exploitation,
  • be able to debate the value of existing risk assessment tools in safeguarding, and
  • be able to cofidently and effectively manage risk.

A Note about Groups:

  • Group A training is for people who are in contact with or work regularly with children and young people and with their parents/carers
  • Group B training is for people who work regularly with children and young people and adults who are parents/carers and may have particular responsibility for safeguarding children
  • Group C training is for designated safeguarding leads and managers in organisations employing staff to work with children and families or with responsibility for commissioning or delivering services.

This course is for colleagues that fall into group A, B and C.
