Aim of the course:

Children's mental health has been the subject of growing concern over recent years. Frontline services report a growing prevalence and acuity of mental health difficulties and referrals to Specialist CAMHS have doubled. This session aims to address the question 'What is mental health?', looks at risk and protective factors, how mental health problems can present, how to take a formulation approach to considering a young person's challenges, and how to understand the range of services locally and how to access them.

By the end of the course, delegates will:

  • understandĀ the notions of mental health, how we think about it, and how we can support children, young people and families to be mentally healthy,
  • be able to take a holistic view of the child in the context of their world, and how that can impact on mental health,
  • recognise risks, and building on protective factors to support children and young people,
  • have familiarisedĀ themselves with the service in order to make effective referrals, or signpost to help, and
  • have explored how our own service, and how to develop or build on good practice.

A Note about Groups:

  • Group A training is for people who are in contact with or work regularly with children and young people and with their parents/carers
