- Misogyny, particularly among boys and young men, is increasing and therefore is increasing the risk of abuse against women and girls. In Hackney, we want to equip professionals, parents and individuals on how to challenge misogyny not only in their everyday lives and public spaces but with young people they work with.
This 1 hour session will cover:
- What is Misogyny and sexism
- Related words and phrases we hear (incel, manosphere etc)
- Misogyny’s link to VAWG (violence against women and girls)
- Misogyny in everyday life
- The rise in misogyny in young people
- Tools to use with young people (young person screening and intervention tool for problematic gendered attitudes developed by DAIS and Young Hackney)
- Tools to use in public spaces (how to be an active bystander)
- Next steps to addressing misogyny both in a professional and a personal context
Participants will:
- Understand what misogyny is and how to identify it
- Understand that misogyny and problematic gendered attitudes/beliefs are directly linked to Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG)
- Be made aware of the epidemic of VAWG and rise of misogyny in young people
- Learn how to address misogyny which will include:
- A brief overview of Hackney’s young person screening and intervention tool for problematic gendered attitudes
- A brief overview of how to intervene in public spaces if someone is being sexually harassed
- How to challenge misogyny in the work we do and in our everyday lives
