CHSCP: Group A/B/C - An Introduction to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

Aim of the course:

This short course provides a brief introduction to FGM. It provides an overview that includes a definition of FGM, when and why it occurs, indicators, key facts, and signposting to further resources.

By the end of the course participants will:

• understand of what FGM is and the types, 
• understand of the short and long term health impacts women face who have suffered FGM,
• understand of the prevalence of FGM, 
• understand of the laws around FGM, and 
• have confidence responding to FGM concerns and or disclosures. 

A Note about Groups:

• Group A training is for people who are in contact with or work regularly with children and young people and with their parents/carers
• Group B training is for people who work regularly with children and young people and adults who are parents/carers and may have particular responsibility for safeguarding children
• Group C training is for designated safeguarding leads and managers in organisations employing staff to work with children and families or with responsibility for commissioning or delivering services.

This course is for colleagues that fall into groups A, B and C.
