Detail:
Every year SIDS claims the lives of 196 babies in the UK, that is around 4 babies a week. Reducing the rate of SIDS is viewed locally as a Safeguarding Children issue and forms part of Hackney Wellbeing Framework and the City of London Threshold Document. Therefore, CHSCP is taking a Multi Agency approach to the aim of reducing the risk of SIDS and invites everyone who works with families with young babies or expectant parents to attend this training.
Aim of the course:
This interactive course ensures that all practitioners who work with families with children under the age of two are able to provide appropriate safer sleep messages. It explores how to best support parents and carers in a responsive way that is in tune with the reality of peoples lives so that Safer Sleep advice and becomes embedded in parenting practice.
By the end of the course, delegates will:
- be knowledgeable of appropriate terminology,
- have examined the evidence that underpins the safer sleep advice we deliver to parents and carers,
- have explored factors associated with the increased risk of Sudden Infant Deaths (SIDs)/Sudden Unexpected Death in Infants (SUDIs),
- have reviewed local and national statistics relating to SIDs,
- have considered safer sleep risk in the context of ‘lived experience’ from the perspective of parents and carers
- identify barriers, and ways to support parents and carers surrounding the embedding of the safer sleep practices,
- consider their roles as practitioners in relation to reducing risk of SIDs/SUDIs,
- understand the role of various Co-ordinator and Nursing roles, and
- understand the Child Death Overview Process.
