Aim of the course:

This training session provides information to Faith Leaders and Designated Safeguarding Leads at faith settings on identification of any signs of abuse of those working and volunteering with children at these settings. The session will provide information on the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) processes involved when allegations are made against staff or volunteers (people in positions of trust) who work with children. This will include how the LADO processes work collaboratively with any internal faith based safeguarding systems, procedures, and teams to provide additional independent safeguarding support. It will also include information on when and how to make a referral, all aspects around the investigation process and LADO oversight of the investigation, and the outcomes of investigations including actions required when allegations had been substantiated.

By the end of the course delegates will:

  • understand when LADO procedures should be applied,
  • have an understanding of the difference between an allegation and a concern,
  • be able to identify what relevant statutory guidance to access,
  • know how to respond to an allegation or concern as an employer,
  • discern between investigations completed by the employer and those completed by the Police or those where these two processes run in parallel,
  • have an awareness as to when to complete risk assessments,
  • understand when Allegations against Staff and Volunteers (ASV) meetings are to be convened,
  • understand the different outcomes of a LADO process, and
  • understand what to do when a substantiated outcome has been reached.
