CHSCP: Group A/B/C - Child Protection and Safeguarding Training for Faith Leaders

Aims of the course:

This culturally-focused training course is specifically aimed at faith leaders. It is designed to empower faith workers to develop confidence in talking to parents/carers directly about safeguarding children in the context of their Church, Mosque or place of worship, and help them to better understand the law and expectations surrounding physical chastisement.

The full-day session will address the disproportionate number of African families who are referred into the child protection system because of incidences of inappropriate physical chastisement of children. Whilst it is noted that the parenting of children in most of these families is good, the course seeks to help faith workers enhance parental understanding about acceptable and non-acceptable chastisement from a safeguarding and legal perspective. 

By the end of the session delegates will:

• have gained new knowledge and understanding of safeguarding around how physical chastisement can be harmful to children,
• better understand how to keep children safe in the place of worship,
• understand how to assess risks of harm to children in the faith setting,
• understand their role and responsibility in keeping children safe outside faith settings, and
• have gained confidence in talking to parents/carers about how to safeguard and protect children in accordance with the law.

A Note about Groups:

• Group A training is for people who are in contact with or work regularly with children and young people and with their parents/carers
• Group B training is for people who work regularly with children and young people and adults who are parents/carers and may have particular responsibility for safeguarding children
• Group C training is for designated safeguarding leads and managers in organisations employing staff to work with children and families or with responsibility for commissioning or delivering services.

This course is for colleagues that fall into group A, B and C.
