CHSCP: Group B/C - Making Sense of Autism

N.B. This course is for LB Hackney staff only, specifically those in CFS.

Course Aims:

This introductory module has been delivered across Hackney schools and to parents. It is open to anyone working directly with children, young people and their families who want to gain a better understanding of what Autism is, and how it affects children. Follow up workshops will be available to explore how to apply this knowledge when working with Autistic children and their families. 

The session will be led by experts from the specialist Autism team at Hackney Education, in partnership with at least one person with lived experience (a young person and/or a parent).

By the end of the course, delegates will:

• have gained a better understanding of what Autism is, and how it affects children, particularly at school,
• know the importance of understanding the individual child and their profile of strengths and needs,
• be able to identify potential barriers to learning and accessing the community for autistic children,
• understand the types of tools and reasonable adjustments that can support autistic children, and
• have learned about the impact autism has on the wider family and what services are available locally.

A Note about Groups:

• Group A training is for people who are in contact with or work regularly with children and young people and with their parents/carers
• Group B training is for people who work regularly with children and young people and adults who are parents/carers and may have particular responsibility for safeguarding children
• Group C training is for designated safeguarding leads and managers in organisations employing staff to work with children and families or with responsibility for commissioning or delivering services.

This course is for colleagues that fall into group B and C.
