CHSCP: Group B/C - Recognising the Difference between Domestic Abuse and Parental Conflict

Practitioners often worry about getting it wrong and the potential to make a situation worse though, for example,  inadvertent collusion with a perpetrator of abuse.

Aim of the course:

This popular session has been created for anyone working with children, adults keen to recognise and understand the difference between parental conflict and domestic abuse. This session explores the language used to describe parental conflict and domestic abuse. It also looks at the behaviours we see in both types of relationships and how sometimes those behaviours overlap. 

By the end of the course, delegates will:

• understand what coercive control is,
• recognise the critical difference between parental conflict and domestic abuse,
• understand why sometimes there are behaviours that we see in both relationships and what do if we are concerned about either, and
• be confident and curious when exploring relationship quality. 

A Note about Groups:

• Group A training is for people who are in contact with or work regularly with children and young people and with their parents/carers
• Group B training is for people who work regularly with children and young people and adults who are parents/carers and may have particular responsibility for safeguarding children
• Group C training is for designated safeguarding leads and managers in organisations employing staff to work with children and families or with responsibility for commissioning or delivering services.

This course is for colleagues that fall into groups B and C.
